The entire premise and success of do-it.org.uk lies with its strength in partnerships.
Without charities large and small there would be no opportunities to provide. Without Volunteer Centres across the UK the opportunities would not get to the do-it.org.uk user, and without organisations such a Volunteering England, do-it.org.uk would not be able to offer opportunities from Tyneside to Totnes.
Ongoing funding partnerships are also intrinsic to the progression of do-it.org.uk.
Without vital funding from Active Communities Unit and Oracle, YouthNet would not have been able to develop the unique V-Base software that has helped create the national volunteering database. It would not have been able to provide Volunteer Centres across the UK with essential hardware to enable them to upload the volunteering opportunities into the database to reach the users of do-it.org.uk.
Cabinet Office of the Third Sector
The Cabinet Office Office of the Third Sector Active Communities Directorate (ACD) provides funding for do-it.org.uk.
The ACD also supports its own employees to volunteer, playing their part in rebuilding regeneration areas in Westminster.
Oracle Corporation
Oracle Corporation is one of our Founder Funders. Organisations of all sizes, in all industries and geographies, meet and exceed their business goals with the help of Oracle technological products, services solutions, and partners.
Volunteering England
Volunteering England works to promote volunteering as a powerful force for change, both for those who volunteer and for the wider community.
They are the new national volunteer development agency for England which came into operation on 1 April 2004.
They were formed as a result of the coming together of The Consortium on Opportunities for Volunteering, The National Centre for Volunteering and Volunteer Development England.
BAA
Through its own charity (the BAA Communities Trust), BAA have committed a total of £75,000 over three years to do-it.org.uk, to support the work YouthNet leads in giving people access to volunteering opportunities.
YouthNet staff are also sharing their volunteering expertise to enhance BAA's employee volunteering programme. As well as providing ongoing advice and support, we're making do-it.org.uk's database of volunteering opportunities accessible via BAA's intranet site. It means that within just a few clicks, BAA employees have access to all the volunteering opportunities and information they need to make a difference to the community around them.
Mike Toms, Chairman of the Trustees of the BAA Communities Trust said:
The donation is a reflection of our company's commitment to giving something back to the community. The service YouthNet provides is key to the way that we inspire our staff - located at airports around the UK - to volunteer. We encourage our employees to access do-it.org through the BAA intranet and by doing so they make a tangible difference to the communities where they live and work"
The BAA Communities Trust
The Trust's grant making works in three key areas, each linked to encouraging work in communities associated with or local to BAA's business and staff, as well as to supporting youth volunteering. Its key focus is on education and the environment, with a philosophy of local support for global benefit. The Trust's work includes:
1) Funding projects in the communities local to BAA's seven UK airports. These are linked in the main to education and environment. Projects are sought by the community relations team at each airport in partnership with local stakeholders.
2) Supporting projects and charitable initiatives put forward by staff. This includes grants made under an annual volunteer awards scheme, I-volunteer
3) Global volunteering projects, sought by the Trust on a proactive basis. Its main focus is a major partnership with VSO through their GlobalXchange programme, now in its second year. This links local to global through a programme which gives a team of 18 young people three months work on community projects around BAA airports, this year Heathrow and Glasgow, followed by three months volunteering overseas, this year India and Sri Lanka.
Volunteering Hub
The Volunteering Hub has helped fund the development of some content on do-it.org.uk, including the blogging section.
The Volunteering Hub is working to achieve the ChangeUp high level objective that by 2014 there will be a leaner, effectively marketed and high quality volunteering infrastructure reaching, recruiting and placing a greater number and diversity of individuals coupled with improved volunteer management.
Youthnet is a recipient of a Google Grant award.
